Hello everyone,

Now that the weather is starting to cooperate, your Cardinal Creek Community Association will begin working this weekend on establishing the base ice at the Cassia and Glandriel (Valin--East Village) outdoor skating rinks.  If the weather cooperates -- no promises! -- we hope to be able to open the rinks during the latter half of the Christmas school break or first week of January.  Once the rinks are open, we invite you to regularly visit www.ottawarinkconditions.ca to find out the status and conditions of our rinks. Rules and Regulations for rink users will soon be posted on site and on our website at www.cardinalcreek.org. 

These rinks are maintained by volunteers: to offer your services, please send an e-mail to recreation at cardinalcreek.org or volunteer at cardinalcreek.org.  High school students are welcome to accumulate their required hours through the CCCA outdoor rink program.

A few IMPORTANT items to note:
  a.. Please stay off the ice and out of the rink surface area when the red signal flag is flying.  Establishing the base ice is critical to ensuring a long, successful skating season.  A yellow or green flag means that you can venture onto the ice surface. 
  b.. Adults and children alike are strongly encouraged to wear helmets when venturing onto the ice.  Our rinks are unsupervised, and residents use the rinks at their own risk. 
  c.. Skating is not allowed after dusk.  Our volunteers scrape/flood the ice surface then, and since our rinks are unlit, this poses a safety hazard for skaters after dark.
We would like to thank the City of Ottawa, Orléans Boat World & Sports, and Robertson Rent-all for their support of our 2009-10 outdoor ice rink program.

Maintenant que Dame Nature semble vouloir coopérer, votre Association communautaire Cardinal Creek commencera ce weekend à établir les surfaces de glace aux patinoires extérieures Cassia et Glandriel (Valin--East Village).  Si les conditions le permettent, nous espérons pouvoir ouvrir les patinoires aux usagers vers la fin décembre, début janvier.  Une fois ouvertes, nous vous invitons à consulter le site www.ottawarinkconditions.ca afin de connaître les conditions de glace.  Les règlements d'utilisation seront bientôt affichés sur place et sur notre site Web au www.cardinalcreek.org.  Ces patinoires sont entretenues par des bénévoles du quartier : pour vous joindre à eux, écrivez à recreation at cardinalcreek.org ou volunteer at cardinalcreek.org.  Les étudiants du secondaire peuvent accumuler des heures de bénévolat pour leur service communautaire en participant à l'entretient des patinoires.

À noter :
  a.. Afin d'assurer une bonne saison de patinage, il est primordial d'établir une bonne base.  Ainsi, merci de ne pas vous aventurer sur la glace quand les drapeaux rouges flottent.  Les drapeaux jaunes ou verts indiquent que vous pouvez utiliser les patinoires. 
  b.. Le port d'un casque protecteur, tant pour les adultes que les enfants, est fortement recommandé.  Nos patinoires ne sont pas supervisées; ainsi, les résidents les utilisent à leur propre risque. 
  c.. Puisque nos patinoires ne sont pas illuminées, il est interdit de les utiliser après le crépuscule.  De plus, nos bénévoles doivent entretenir les surfaces de glace en soirée, en préparation pour le lendemain.
Nous remercions la Ville d'Ottawa, Orléans Boat World & Sports et Robertson Rent-all pour leur appui à notre programme de patinoires extérieures pour 2009-10.
