[ccca-announce] Cardinal Creek Residents Triumph with Trim Road Signalized Pedestrian Crossings

Dear Cardinal Creek Residents

The Cardinal Creek Community Association (CCCA) Board of Directors is 
pleased to report that the City of Ottawa (Councillors Monette and 
Blais) announced yesterday that the public safety of Cardinal Creek 
residents triumphed. The City announced that signalized pedestrian 
crossings will be installed at the 2 residential locations 
(Portobello/Springridge/Trim and Park 18B and the future Frank Kenny 
extension) where significant safety concerns prevailed. This is the 
right thing to do in the view of the CCCA.

The CCCA is pleased that its win-win position of signalized pedestrian 
crossings was endorsed by City politicians and staff. Furthermore, the 
CCCA is pleased to see that 3 roundabouts will be constructed where they 
will save lives by reducing line ups and rear-enders on the Regional 
Road 174. We are confident that the Trim Road re-alignment will be built 
on-time and on-budget in a manner where both motorists and pedestrians 
will benefit. Now, all we require is the Ontario Minister of 
Environment's final stamp of approval in February 2012.

On behalf of the CCCA Board of Directors we would like to extend a 
special thank to the Consortium de Transport Scolaire d'Ottawa, the 
Ottawa Student Transportation Authority, the Beatrice Desloges School 
Council, the eight community associations from across the East End of 
Ottawawho supported our reasoned public safety position and Councilors 
Monette, Blais, Bloess and Tierney for securing this positive outcome.

Chers résidents et résidentes de Cardinal Creek,

Le conseil de direction de l'Association Communautaire de Cardinal Creek 
est heureux de vous informer que la Ville d'Ottawa (Conseillers Monette 
et Blais) a annoncé hier que la sécurité publique des résidents de 
Cardinal Creek a triomphé. La Ville a annoncé que les passages 
piétonniers se feront avec signalisation au deux intersections 
(Portobello/Springridge/Trim ainsi qu'au Parc 18B et la future extension 
de Frank Kenny) là où la sécurité prime avant tout. Aux yeux de 
l'Association, c'est la bonne décision.

L'Association est heureuse que sa proposition sur les passages 
piétonniers où tous en sortent gagnants a été endossée par les 
politiciens et les employés municipaux. De plus, l'Association est 
enchantée de voir que les 3 carrefours giratoires seront construits là 
où ils sauveront des vie en réduisant la congestion et les risques de 
collisions près de la route 174. Nous sommes confiants que le projet de 
réalignement du Chemin Trim sera construit dans le temps imparti et dans 
les limites du budget de manière à ce que les automobilistes et les 
piétons en bénéficient. Nous attendons maintenant l'approbation du 
project par Le Ministère de l'Environnement dès février 2012.

Au nom du Conseil de Direction de l'Association, nous tenons à remercier 
tout spécialement le Consortium de Transport Scolaire d'Ottawa, le 
Ottawa Student Transportation Authority, le conseil d'école Béatrice 
Desloges, les huit associations communautaires de l'Est d'Ottawa qui ont 
supporté notre point vue mûrement réfléchi sur la sécurité publique, 
ainsi que les conseillers municipaux Monette, Blais, Bloess et Tierney 
d'avoir obtenu ce résultat positif.
